Tech student Sumaiya Khan tutors Bethune Elementary students
The Office of Government and Community Relations community outreach unit, Community Relations (CR), is focused on building upon Georgia Tech's motto of "Progress and Service" through helping Georgia Tech increase civic responsibility to improve local neighborhoods and K-12 schools and providing a liaison to Metro Atlanta government entities to enhance Georgia Tech's operations.
Community Outreach
Community Relations works closely with local neighborhood organizations, non-profits, and governmental entities to help improve and empower various communities. By leveraging the resources of Georgia Tech and City contacts, CR can assist communities with their mission of improving the quality of life for residents. Whether it's job fairs, technology assistance, entrepreneurial consulting, crime reduction or asset mapping, CR can aid communities that are experiencing renewal and revitalization.
K-12 Outreach
Georgia Tech recognizes its responsibility to enhance the curriculum of K-12 schools, especially in math, science, and technology, in order to ensure that all children can gain the knowledge necessary to succeed. Community Relations works closely with six primary and secondary schools that are near the Georgia Tech campus, along with other Metro Atlanta schools and state school systems. By pooling the resources of existing programs and student groups on campus, CR can fulfill the needs of schools for tutors/mentors, technology assistance, higher-education interaction, etc. CR partners with Georgia Tech's Center for Education Integrating Science, Math and Computing to offer programs for curriculum enhancement and other campus programmatic efforts that positively impact teaching and learning. CR can also provide an updated K-12 and Beyond Booklet, a Tech Tours Booklet, along with non-traditional tours of our campus.
