Community Outreach
Institute Partnerships works closely with local neighborhood organizations to help improve and empower various communities. Below is a compilation of some successful projects in local neighborhoods.
English Avenue Community
—Clothed over 1,000 people each year as a result of the 2004 and 2005 clothing drives
—Annual food drives fed 35 families in 2004 and 30 families in 2005
—Provided tutors to Bethune Elementary School to enhance education
—Created and hired a Georgia Tech student as a project coordinator for the English Avenue Community
Resource Center (salary paid by Johnson Controls)
—Georgia Tech students participate in annual clean-up projects through TEAM Buzz, the Summer Challenge program
and Tech Beautification Day.
—Brought student group to mentor youths at Street Smart drop-in center
English Avenue Neighborhood Association
—Continue to provide secretarial functions (since 2002)
—Wrote presentation guidelines for developers, which the Land Use and Development
Committee continues to utilize
—Georgia Tech Real Estate Development Office created flyers that are distributed
throughout community to keep citizens informed of available opportunities
—Recruited Coca-Cola to participate in local projects
—Recruited Georgia Tech graduate student in city planning to create sector maps for Public Safety Committee
—Coordinated the assistance of a Georgia Tech professor to write grant proposals for the community.
As a result, EANA was granted a "Weed and Seed" grant
English Avenue Community Collaborative (EACC)
—Produced the successful 2005 Westside Job Fair and Public Safety Forum, in partnership with the Atlanta
Neighborhood Development Partnerships, English Avenue Neighborhood Association, Antioch Urban Ministries,
Centennial Place YMCA, English Avenue Community Development Corp. and the Georgia Department of
Labor. (200 residents applied for jobs and interviewed with 35 companies.)
—Georgia Tech continues to host EACC meetings
—Georgia Tech hosted a corporate breakfast that attracted 45 companies to discuss partnership for job fair
—Hosted a strategic planning session facilitated by Georgia Tech's Office of Organizational Planning
—Encourage Coca-Cola to donate $2,000 for 2006 Westside Job Fair
Antioch Urban Ministries, Inc.
—Recruited Johnson Controls staff to teach Job Readiness Courses
—Georgia Tech OHR staff assisted with Job Readiness Courses
—Leveraged the relationship between Georgia Tech Food Processing and Technology with poultry
processing plants for the donation of 100 lbs. of chicken for holiday baskets
—Brought Boy Scout troop to campus visit with Georgia Tech Police Dept.
Vine City
—Recruited Georgia Tech landscaping manager to consult with Vine City on the creation of
new landscaping company tailored to the Vine City area
—Facilitated partnership between Georgia Tech Beautification Day and Vine City
—Offered consultation on the creation of website and future website enhancement
—Edit letters, agreements and other documents
